¿Qué son el «present Perfect and past simple»?

El Present Perfect y el Past Simple son dos tiempos verbales en inglés que se usan para hablar del pasado, pero tienen diferencias fundamentales. Usar correctamente uno u otro puede cambiar por completo el significado de una frase. Mientras que el Past Simple se refiere a acciones completamente finalizadas en un tiempo definido, el Present Perfect conecta el pasado con el presente, hablando de experiencias, resultados o acciones que aún son relevantes.

Present Perfect

Forma

Se forma con el auxiliar have/has + el participio pasado del verbo.

Ejemplos:

• I have visited London.
• She has eaten sushi before.

Cuándo se usa

• Experiencias sin decir cuándo: I have seen that movie.
• Acciones que acaban de suceder: She has just left.
• Acciones que empezaron en el pasado y continúan: They have lived here for 10 years.

Past Simple

Forma

Se forma con el verbo en pasado: verbo + -ed (verbos regulares) o forma irregular.

Ejemplos:

• He played football yesterday.
• They went to Paris last summer.

Cuándo se usa

• Acciones terminadas en el pasado: I visited Rome in 2018.
• Historias o narraciones del pasado: She studied in London and then moved to Madrid.
• Con expresiones de tiempo específicas: yesterday, last week, in 2005, two days ago.

Diferencias clave entre Present Perfect y Past Simple

• Present Perfect: No se menciona cuándo ocurrió la acción.
• Past Simple: Se dice exactamente cuándo ocurrió.

No. ‘Yesterday’ indica un momento específico en el pasado, por lo tanto debe usarse con Past Simple.
